Why use GIS
In the strictest sense, a geographical information system (GIS), or geospatial
information system, is an elegant information system capable of integrating,
storing, editing, analyzing, sharing, and displaying geographically referenced
information. GIS is a useful tool which allows users of almost all business
sectors to create interactive queries (user created searches), analyze the
spatial information, edit data, maps, and present the results of all these
operations, in order to build their business booming.
The Geographic information system (GIS) technology can be widely used
for various scientific investigations, asset management, resource management,
environmental impact assessment, urban planning, cartography, criminology,
history, sales, marketing, and logistics. For example, GIS can allow emergency
planners to calculate easily the emergency response times in the event
of a natural disaster, GIS can also be used to find wetlands which need
protection from pollution, or GIS can definitely be used by a company
to set up a new business to take advantage of a previously underserved
market.
